OpenID on multiple profiles -> can't edit profile
Reported by Zach Hale | April 14th, 2008 @ 10:48 PM
I set my profile to have an openid of zachhale.com on one account, then went to another account, logged out, and was able to set the same openid on that other account. I realized that I should consolidate so I deleted that other account (not the profile, though, I don't think) and returned to my primary account where zachhale.com was still set as the openid.
I cannot now edit my profile because every time I try to save with the openid url set as zachhale.com or if I empty the openid field and press save, it give me an error saying "Openid url has already been taken". I cannot set my picture or make any other changes to my profile because of it.
The problem is with the user I posted this message from.

I was just getting ready to report the same issue. I took pretty much the same steps as the reporter here.
Is/Will it be possible to consolidate two profiles I use on different accounts into one? I have having to logout/in to switch between my personal project lighthouse and my company's lighthouse

Right, but our user profiles are set up more like a social network. There's no scope that logins are checked.

Basecamp has a feature where if you set the same openid for multiple profiles on different projects/accounts it automatically links all your profiles together and gives you a list of accounts that you're on at the top of the window.
I was invited to a new project via a different email address than I use on my existing lighthouse account. But now I don't know how to give myself access to this new project with my old account.

Thomas: i replaced your comment with the one Justin deleted. Caches aren't being swept after versions are updated either.

Alrighty.
I suppose it could be made more obvious that users are global to the site instead of to the project. Anyone who expects it to work like basecamp (EG: me) would be confused.
Now that I understand what's going on it makes sense, but the UI certainly didn't beat me over the head with the fact.
I would like to find out how many accounts I might have and merge them somehow. It might be a huge pain to get the owners of these various projects to delete me account and re-invite me with the right email address and then go through and reassign everything to me.
Feature Rq: Merge Users
Plz, thx, etc...

See #796 for the natural progression of my implied feature request

My issue was specifically that my openid had been used on two profiles and it had put it in a lock so I couldn't edit anything until I registered a new, valid, openid (I couldn't just remove).
