Invoice/Receipt emails
Reported by Robby Russell | June 22nd, 2007 @ 06:31 AM
Earlier today, we received our automatic renewal invoice/receipt and I wanted to make a few requests for the email that is being sent.
Could the following information be provided?
- Line item(s) of the service plan(s) that we're being charged for.
** Example: Lighthouse - Plan X - 1 month - $xx.xx
- The account domain/username (example: planetargon, planetargon.lighthouseapp.com)
- The company name that will appear on the credit card charge
- Your company's billing address
- The dates that this invoice covers (example: 06-01-2007 through 07-01-2007)
When this gets sent to our accountant, it'd be great if they had enough information so that they didn't have to go, "what is this charge for?"
Just a few things that I'd really like to see on an invoice (and so would our accountant).

Those are the emails that payflow is sending out. Overall, I'm not entirely happy with the payflow billing service. I plan to implement our own CC billing system so I can customize the invoices we send out, among other things.

I saw a thread on your blog about that. We're using TrustCommerce with the trust commerce plugin (with some modifications) for a few client projects. I don't like the get an email if the credit card is declined way of managing client renewals, so we manage the renewals ourselves (while offloading the CC security to TC), which allows us to also manage the invoices, and cycles.
One suggestion in the interim, send out invoices and mention that they'll receive an automatic confirmation email upon authorization of the new payment each month.
In my opinion, the current email isn't sufficient enough and I'd prefer two emails each month (invoice and payment confirmation) to an insufficient email.

I can't really change the email. I actually just need to rewrite the payment system, Payflow just isn't working out. It supports reference transactions though, which work like trust commerce's billing id.

Braintree has been great so far... let me know if you need a contact on the inside. ;-)
